FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ2020-04-22T08:48:43-06:00

What do you need to know before you book your Product Photography Session?

How will the images be delivered?2020-04-03T14:12:08-06:00

By default your final retouched product photography images will be delivered as high resolution JPG or PNG files (if transparent backgrounds are required) using an online file sharing service such as Dropbox or Google Drive.

Having said that, this is a custom product and therefore we can provide you with whatever you need. Let us know what file format, size, resolution, or any other specification that you you need and we will work with you to meet your needs as closely as we can.

We may also be able to provide you with the image files via a USB thumb drive or CD/DVD if necessary, but there may be an extra fee to do so as this takes extra time and materials that we rarely use anymore… We will do the best we can to accomodate such requests.

Will I get a choice of images to use for my product?2020-04-03T14:53:18-06:00

The short answer is yes, you will have options… Pricing is essentially on a per-image basis, so you will only get to use the images that you pay for. But you will have a variety of images to choose from following the session.

Prior to the session we will have a discussion about how the images will be used and what you think you might need. During that discussion will make a plan for the session to efficiently get you what you need.

During the session we will create a number of different images of your product using a combination of positions and angles of the product itself, lighting angles and techniques, and possibly using different backdrops that best fit the intended use of the images.

Note that the number of images we make during the session will be influenced by the package you booked, the number of images you think you need, and the angles (or “looks”) that you had in prior to the session. If it becomes clear during the session that there may be some better options we will shoot those too.

You will be able to review the images from the session in an online proofing gallery and choose the one(s) you actually want to use. Your final selected images will be individually retouched as required to remove dirt, grime, dust spots, and other blemishes. Background removal is also included in the basic fee if required.

Do you “airbrush” or “photoshop” the images?2020-04-03T14:56:48-06:00

Will you come to our location for the session?2020-04-03T14:58:23-06:00

Commercial product photography can be done in-studio or on-location at your office, manufacturing site, warehouse, retail store, or restaurant.

Generally very large items or high volumes of products will be done at your location, while smaller products or batches of only a few items can be done in the studio.

What is the normal turnaround time?2020-04-03T14:12:17-06:00

The normal schedule for delivery of an online proofing gallery of image files for client review is 1-2 business days following product photography sessions.

Final retouched images are typically delivered via digital download 1-2 business days following client selection.

Highly detailed requests by the client for additional retouching may require extra time, but this should be discussed up front if you have specific requirements.

Faster turnaround can usually be accomodated but there may be additional charges to do so. Nominal fees for faster processing include a 50% additional charge for guaranteed 24 hour service, and a 100% additional charge for guaranteed same day service. These fees can often be avoided by scheduling the session on an earlier date or by being flexible with what is required for the final delivery. If you have a deadline that you need the images back be sure to discuss this with us at the earliest possible opportunity!

Do you offer an expedited turnaround option?2020-04-03T14:12:12-06:00

How long do you keep the original image files?2020-04-03T14:12:04-06:00

All of our final retouched image files and the original camera RAW files get backed up in at least 2 local file locations on-site and they get archived online for permanent storage using 2 independent commercial backup services.

Anything can happen, but we have never lost any clients files in the past and at this point we don’t plan to delete any of them at any point in the future. This could change, so your best option is always to maintain local storage archives of your own final retouched image files so that you always have access to them when you need them.

If you somehow lose access to your final retouched files please feel free to reach out and we can usually provide them to you in relatively short order.

If you need access to your original proofing gallery to select additional images please feel free to reach out about that. We can usually have that online for you within a day or so of receiving the request. Additional images from past sessions will be available to purchase at comparable rates to what you were charged at the time of the original session.

Where are product photography sessions done?2020-04-03T14:58:27-06:00

Commercial product photography can be done in-studio or on-location at your office, manufacturing site, warehouse, retail store, or restaurant.

Generally very large items or high volumes of products will be done at your location, while smaller products or batches of only a few items can be done in the studio.

We have a complete portable studio with professional studio lighting and backdrops that we can setup at your location for high volume work, for very large equipment, or for any other reason that you would prefer that we come to you.

On the other hand if it’s just easier for you to come here that works too. The studio is readily available and we have lots of backdrops, props, and other specialty equipment that we have purchased or built to make product photography as fast and straightforward as possible.

How long does it take to setup the portable studio?2020-04-03T14:13:07-06:00

The portable product photography studio normally only takes around 20-30 minutes to setup; however the required time depends on the location, access to power, the space available, and many other factors.

When you contact us about your session we will ask a number of questions that will help us to determine how far in advance we need to show up at your location to provide the coverage you require and to be ready at the time you want us to start.

Can we buy additional images from an old session?2020-04-03T14:12:58-06:00

If you need access to your original proofing gallery to select additional images please feel free to reach out about that. We can usually have that online for you within a day or so of receiving the request.

Additional images from past sessions will be available to purchase at comparable rates to what you were charged at the time of the original session.
